Abstract:	本人曾經以「馬偕神學思想初探」為題，初步從《台灣遙寄》探討馬偕的神學思想。這篇文章想要從歷史時代背景的角度，繼續探討《台灣遙寄》這本自傳所呈現的馬偕。目前這本書的中譯本有二：《台灣遙寄》與《台灣六記》。以書名而言， From Far Formosa原意是「來自遙遠的台灣」，如郭和烈所見，顯然「台灣遙寄」比「台灣六記」更佳，然而這二個譯本的中文翻譯都未能令人滿意，因此本文只參照使用，並輔佐以本人的翻譯。
